Ima’mi: The Queer Royalty love story Moves into Post-Production!

HUG Media Concept Nigeria proudly announces that its highly anticipated Queer Royalty film, “Ima’mi,” has entered the post-production phase following a 32-day shoot in the cities of Port Harcourt, Owerri, and Calabar.

This groundbreaking film, directed by award winning filmmaker Godwin Harrison, promises to deliver a unique and powerful narrative that explores themes of identity, love, and acceptance within the queer community.

“Ima’mi is set against the backdrop of the vibrant and culturally rich Efik kingdom of Calabar, where tradition and modernity collide. The film follows the journey of Crown Prince Henshaw Archibong, who grapples with his obsession for a palace guard as he navigates the expectations of his royal heritage and his truth as a queer individual. Through a blend of drama, romance, and cultural exploration, Ima’mi challenges societal norms and celebrates the diversity of human experience.

We are thrilled to bring ‘Ima’mi’ to life,” said Gabriel McWilliams Ekpekhiro, the Executive Producer of the project, who also plays the role of Etubom Ekpeyong. “This film is a celebration of authenticity and courage. It’s about breaking barriers and finding one’s place in the world despite the challenges posed by societal expectations.

The film boasts a stellar cast, including veteran actress Maryann Apollo, whose performances bring depth and nuance to this compelling story. The lush cinematography, paired with mesmerizing costumes, enhances the film’s emotional resonance, making ‘Ima’mi’ a visual feast for audiences.

As the film moves through post-production, the team is focused on ensuring that every detail is meticulously crafted to honor the story’s integrity and the experiences it represents. From editing to sound design, the post-production phase will bring the final touches that will make “Ima’mi” a standout piece in contemporary cinema.

This project is very close to our hearts,” said Kelvin Okoroji, Production Supervisor and Script Doctor of “Ima’mi. We aim to create a film that not only entertains but also educates and inspires. Our goal is to spark meaningful conversations about identity, acceptance, and the rich tapestry of queer experiences.

“Ima’mi” is expected to premiere at major film festivals in 2025,  where it will undoubtedly make a significant impact. The film’s release will be accompanied by a series of discussions and events aimed at fostering dialogue and understanding about queer identities and experiences within the African context.
