The Families Stage Play: Emotion, Conversation, and an Unforgettable Experience

The Families stage play was more than just a performance,  it was an experience.

Produced by HUG Media Concept, the stage play brought together powerful storytelling, emotional performances, social commentary, and unforgettable moments that kept audiences fully engaged from beginning to end.

Held at Alliance Française Port Harcourt, The Families welcomed creatives, students, media personalities, advocates, and lovers of theatre who came ready to laugh, reflect, learn, and connect.

What made this recent production even more special was the way it reaffirmed the very first performance of The Families, which took place in April 2018 at the 34 Brigade Artillery Obinze Barracks.

Just like it did back then, the story once again created a raw emotional connection with the audience. Some audience members could not stop talking about certain scenes long after the performance had ended.

One of the biggest highlights of the play was the intersex storyline, which sparked meaningful conversations around identity, acceptance, and representation. It was bold, important, and one of the reasons the production stood out so strongly.

The performances from the cast were exceptional. Every actor brought energy, emotion, and authenticity to their role, making each scene feel real and relatable. The audience responded with loud applause, cheers, emotional reactions, and even standing ovations.

The success of The Families would not have been possible without the support of our amazing partners and supporters.

Special appreciation goes to Our partners: https://af-nigeria.org/ Allianse Française Port Harcourt and the Initiative for Gender Equality and Sexual Reproduction Health https://www.ige-srh.org/https://www.ige-srh.org/ for their support.

Following the successful Port Harcourt run, HUG Media Concept is excited to take The Families beyond the city with upcoming screenings in Lagos, Enugu, and Abuja.

These screenings will give even more people the opportunity to experience the story, connect with the characters, and join the important conversations the play raises.

For us at HUG Media Concept, The Families is not just a stage play. It is a reminder that storytelling can entertain, educate, challenge society, and bring people together.
